Equine influenza has been confirmed in Essex County, Ontario. A Quarter Horse gelding used for barrel racing and two others from the same facility competed at an event in Huron County on May 9-11, 2025. Clinical signs (low grade fever, nasal discharge, cough) started to develop on May 10, 2025. Testing confirmed infection with influenza virus. The horses are recovering. The horses were not vaccinated. The farm owner is working with their veterinarian on animal movement restrictions and biosecurity protocols.
