A 1-year-old male horse in Rural Municipality of Swift Current #137, Saskatchewan was examined on August 13, 2023 for neurological symptoms and tested positive for West Nile Virus on ELISA ante mortem on August 18, 2023. He was euthanized. There was no history of travel. The horse was not vaccinated against West Nile Virus. This is the first case of West Nile Virus in a horse in the province for this year.
