Strangles (Streptococcus equi) in Quebec, June 11, 2024

Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Laval, Quebec. On June 6, 2024, a 6 year old mare presented with fever, yellowish white nasal discharge, submandibular inflammation, and discomfort of eating. Infection with S. equi was confirmed on PCR on June 11, 2024. The horse is recovering. There was introduction of new horses in the stable 2-3 weeks prior.
