Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA)

Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Simcoe County, Ontario. A 13 year old Draft-cross gelding was admitted to a referral hospital with a fever of unknown origin and mucopurulent nasal discharge. Samples from the upper respiratory tract were positive for S. equi. The horse is recovering.
