Strangles (Streptococcus equi) in Ontario, September 11, 2024

Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA)

Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Wellington County, Ontario. Three horses began showing classic signs of Strangles beginning on September 2, 2024, and tested positive on PCR. Two additional horses have been exposed. The facility manager has voluntarily stopped movement of horses on and off the property and is working with their veterinarian on instituting biosecurity protocols.
