Strangles (Streptococcus equi) in Ontario, March 10, 2025

Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Grey County, Ontario. A 3 year old Draft filly was a new horse and was immediately quarantined upon arrival at the owner's farm. She developed submandibular abscesses and nasal discharge. No other horses on the farm are clinically affected. The horse is recovering. The farm owner is working with their veterinarian on voluntary animal movement restrictions and biosecurity.
