Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Wellington County, Ontario. The affected mare was exposed briefly to a horse that temporarily stayed at the farm and that had come from a facility that had some respiratory illness. The horse developed signs of strangles and tested positive by PCR. There are 10 additional horses who have been exposed. The farm owner has instituted voluntary animal movement restrictions and biosecurity protocols.
