Equine influenza has been confirmed in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. On October 28, a yearling Warmblood colt developed a fever and nasal discharge. The colt is recovering, and is not vaccinated against equine influenza.
20 horses have been exposed. About 8 to 10 other horses are affected with fever/nasal discharge/cough. Many are under- or unvaccinated for influenza. Those horses that are vaccinated for influenza, because they leave the property, are minimally affected. The facility is under voluntary animal movement restrictions and the owner is working with their veterinarian on biosecurity.
