Equine influenza has been confirmed in Northumberland County, Ontario. A 7 year old mare was bought from a sale. Approximately 5 days later the horse developed clinical signs and by the time she was examined by the veterinarian on November 20, 2024, she had profuse nasal discharge and cough. Other horses on the property have a very mild cough. Most of the horses at the facility are vaccinated for influenza and are clinically well. Equine influenza was confirmed on November 23, 2024. The horse is recovering. The horse's vaccination status is unknown.
The facility manager is working with their veterinarian on voluntary animal movement restrictions and biosecurity.
