Equine influenza in Ontario, November 2, 2024

Equine influenza has been confirmed in Lanark County, Ontario. On October 17, 2024, a 24 year old Thoroughbred gelding developed a cough and nasal discharge. Equine influenza was confirmed on November 2, 2024. The horse is recovering. The horse was undervaccinated against equine influenza. Only one other horse is on the property and he is vaccinated for influenza and not showing any signs. The farm owner has instituted voluntary animal movement restrictions and is working with their veterinarian.
