April Animal Determinants of Emerging Disease Rounds - Dengue on the Rise: Mapping the threat and assessing transmission risks in Canada

Share:

In 2024, the Americas reported the highest number of confirmed dengue cases to date with cases by the end of April three times what was reported during the same period in 2023. In addition, local transmission of dengue was reported in 2024 in California, Florida and Texas causing concerns for Canada, which has a recently established population of Aedes albopictus, a competent vector for dengue virus. This presentation will provide an overview of dengue virus transmission and the risk assessment conducted by PHAC in response to the 2024 outbreak in the Americas. It will also discuss opportunities for mosquito surveillance in Canada.
